"Heirloom Beans"

Beans pack both a Carbohydrate (quick energy) and Protein (recover & enduring strength) punch. Lentils, for example are blessed with a complete Protein combination which is great for vegetarians and those looking to pack in more protein with their carb meal. 

But life and cuisine go well beyond just lentils.

I've discovered a remarkable place in California called RANCHO GORDO which sells a huge range of these ProtoCarboPower foods. I'm impressed with their love of lentils (reminds me of my inability to see anything but muscles all day long) and are even proud to have helped saved a variety of beans that were near extinction! 

Now that's love of beans.

Legumes with unique flavors range from silky-smooth to beefy. I'm finding that I don't want beans to just be a compliment to some meat or fish, but a center of the meal. 

And keep in mind that Protein is more than just muscle. Your hormonal system is supported by your Protein choices. Hormones control everything our bodies do, including how we grow and repair.
